Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort *****+

Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort mauritius has been lovingly developed on the site of one of Mauritius' best kept and most jealously guarded secrets, the former sugar estate of Bel Ombre. Developed on 15 hectares of the estate, Le Telfair nestles breathtakingly between the dreamy turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean and the lush green slopes of the new 18 hole championship golf course at the foot of a mountain.

Location:
The Le Telfair Spa and Golf Resort is situated on the Southern end of the island residing on an historic country estate.
Having been lovingly restored in traditional Mountain Colonial style, it offers a wealth of luxury and is unique to Mauritius with its lush surroundings.

Dating back over 200 years its historical soil harbours some of the rarest flora and fauna on the planet, adopted by colonial botanist Charles Telfair, whom the property is aptly named after.

Accomodation:
The outstanding feature of all the rooms at Le Telfair Mauritius Golf & Spa Resort is that they are designed for those that delight in detail and who want to luxuriate in the peace, space and harmony of a gentler, more leisurely age. Wood panelled walls, intricate ceiling wainscoting, highly polished wooden floors, ceiling fans, gleaming brass lamps, marble, cool to the touch, high quality ceramics and mosaics. All do their part to create an environment where you'll want to linger.
The mood is extended to a generously proportioned and stylistically authentic 19th century bathroom, large enough to accommodate a walk-in wardrobe, a dressing table, or in some, a free standing bathtub.
Facilities
Le Telfair's 158 rooms are situated in 20 villas of 6 or 8 rooms each. Each is ideally located between sea and nature, between the golf course and the lagoon, amidst the splendour of tropical gardens. Bedroom furniture inspired by the French colonial period forms part of an ideal balance between latter day space and elegance with up to the minute comfort and practicality. The spacious en-suite bathrooms feature a walk-in shower, separate toilet, dressing facilities and hairdryer.
While the room itself offers a minibar, electronic room safe and individually controlled air-conditioning, electric shaver plugs as well as multi adaptors. And for those who simply must keep in touch with the 'real' world, each room is fitted with PC and Internet connections. Laptop computers and fax machines are available upon request. Each of the
suites also offers a DVD/CD Player and a large selection of the latest films.
Butler service is available 24 hours a day.

Superior Rooms
Superior Rooms have dark coloured timber floors in the bedrooms with painted timber wainscoting, ceilings and architraves. The carefully selected fabrics and materials are all in a variety of natural cotton and linen fibres in soft, warm hues of light green, cream, beige and cappuccino. This special decorative concept lends warmth and cosiness to the rooms.

Above the bed, the finely polished wooden blades of a fan lazily stirring the air perfectly recreate the colonial ambience.
At the foot of the bed, a spacious sofa, armchair and coffee table create a perfect place for relaxation or an intimate dinner for two. Floor to ceiling French windows open wide onto the veranda, allowing gentle sea breezes to air the room throughout the day.

Most rooms face the sea, while others enjoy a view of the river, across the golf course and to the mountains beyond. The large bathroom is decorated with earthenware ceramic tiles on the walls and traditional mosaic tiles on the floors. A capacious dressing closet is situated to the side. Just above the bathtub, the mirror opens to enable communication between the bathroom and the bedroom.
The decorative blasted glass doors of the shower and toilet, glass shelves and mirrors create a pleasing aura of space and style. The charm of the colonial architecture combined with the very latest accessories and equipment create a harmonious marriage between the traditional and the contemporary.

Deluxe Rooms
Stretch out in luxury
Each of the deluxe rooms is furnished with a wide four poster bed expertly crafted from timber. There's nothing quite like a bed of such style and substance to create a wonderfully romantic ambience, enhanced as it is by light, translucent linen drapery flowing from the ceiling, reminiscent of old fashioned mosquito nets.
Junior Suites
Similar in layout to the deluxe rooms, the Junior Suites are more spacious with a hexagonal-shaped panoramic lounge and a larger veranda where a chaise longue and a coffee table create the perfect invitation to relax outdoors.
In the bathroom, the generously proportioned old style bathtub is free standing, while a beautiful dressing table completes the very essence of a bygone age.
Senior Suites
All the pleasures of an apartment complete with Hotel service These fabulous suites come as close to owning your own private property in paradise as one could hope to get. You enter the Senior Suite via the lounge where the dining room is appointed.
Exuding a warm and convivial atmosphere, the spacious lounge is furnished with a sofa, lounge chairs, a coffee table, and a pedestal table on which rests elegant colonial style lamps. Directly accessible from the lounge is the washroom, complete with a basin and dressing table, it's available for the use of dining guests. Sweep through the double doors into a truly romantic bedroom complete with its own spacious en-suite bathroom.
The large veranda, shared as it is by the two rooms, the lounge and bedroom, is an irresistible place to idle away a morning or afternoon in the company of good friends or a good book.
Ocean Suites
Considerably larger than the Senior Suites, the Ocean Suites offer an even greater level of comfort, elegance and space with pitched ceiling bathrooms. In the dining room, the table comfortably seats 6, and butler service is available for all meals. Meals on the veranda can also be arranged. Again, the lounge furniture consists of a sofa, armchairs, a coffee table, console table and table lamps.
Colonial style chandeliers complete the look and feel. French doors in the bathroom open onto a private garden giving the impression of living in the open air.
An impression further confirmed by the additional outdoor shower being placed in the heart of lush tropical greenery.

Dining:

"The discovery of a new dish does more for human happiness than the discovery of a new star"
When it comes to food, Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort goes a long way towards ensuring that the pursuit of happiness comes top of the menu. There's a rich variety of restaurants, allowing residents to give free rein to their desire to discover all sorts of new flavours and cuisines.
Main Restaurant
Guests and members of the kitchen brigade can enjoy a uniquely convivial relationship, built around a superb "show kitchen" where guests can select from a range of cosmopolitan specialities or discuss with the Executive Chef the creation of original dishes they are keen to try.

This intriguing concept forms part of the daily culinary regimen. At the same time, a well-stocked wine cellar provides the perfect excuse for a friendly discussion between the sommelier and residents where each can exchange their views on this endlessly fascinating subject.
The search for the best combination of wine and dish will also encourage informal wine-tasting within the show kitchen. The main restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Designed on four levels, the restaurant overlooks the sea, the mountains and the river.
The terrace is perfect for a starlit dinner.
Seafood Restaurant
Open from lunch through to dinner, built on a peninsula of pure white powder sand and surrounded by water, the Seafood Restaurant exudes an aura of tranquillity and relaxation. There's the opportunity to enjoy a variety of panoramic views from the calm riverbanks of Citronniers River to the sparkling white caps breaking against the coral reef. In the evening, the mood becomes more sophisticated.
Fish and the freshest seafood are served with an unusual, Asian/Japanese influence, grilled on the spot, or cooked to your personal taste. An important part of the pleasure of a well cooked meal is the opportunity to choose the ingredients oneself.
Guests are more than welcome to inspect the catch when the fishermen come up the river to the jetty, fresh from the sea each day. Choose your own seafood and discuss exactly how you would like it prepared. Expect the unexpected.
Main Bar & Lounge
Always open and inviting. A relaxed ambience to take in a good book and enjoy the serenity of the area. After dinner, guests can set the seal on a great day over a nightcap and cigars, while a live band entertains on the stage overlooking the river. An open-air dance-floor beckons those in search of a livelier close to the evening.
Mediterranean Restaurant
Located between the beach and the pool, the Mediterranean Restaurant offers light, Med-style cuisine, influenced by the flavours of delicious open wood fire cooking.
Open throughout the day, it's the ideal spot for those keen to pursue the pleasures of the sea without pausing for a formal meal.
Château de Bel Ombre
Built in the 19th century amidst elegant one hundred year old French gardens, the Château de Bel Ombre borders the golf course at the foot of the Plaine Champagne mountain. It's a place where dreams and romance intertwine.
Internal wooden structures are hung with historical mementoes, the antique wood panelling and the wide surrounding veranda create exactly the right environment in which to savour cocktails, take tea or perhaps a typical Mauritian meal of game or heart of palm.
Lunch is reserved for light and informal Mauritian cuisine, and the dress code is similarly informal and casual. The evenings however, usher in a change of mood, where haute cuisine and elegant evening wear set the tone. Sophisticated yet relaxed.

An amphitheatre has been created at the bottom of the Chateau gardens using the existing slopes leading to the golf course as a natural venue for special events and outdoor concerts.
Beach Service
A very handy beach service is available for residents unable to drag themselves from the comfort of their sun lounger.
Room Service
Around the clock, room service is never more than a phone call away via your butler.

Activities & Facilities:

Golf
Le Telfair's 18-hole championship golf course was designed by Matkovich & Hayes one of the leading golf course landscapers and designers in South Africa. The course they have designed has some unique and challenging features including two rivers, Citronniers and St Martin, that run through it, as well as the Chateau de Bel Ombre with its beautiful French gardens.
Golfers walking the tracks to the next hole, enjoy a magnificent view of both the lagoons and the mountains.
The course, which adjoins the Hotel, gives residents access to the course via golf cart through a private pathway. Having taken cognisance of your tee off time, golf carts are brought to the porte cochere for added convenience. Guest's golf clubs are carefully polished and safely stored in individual lockers at the resort, ready for another day on the greens. As well as a welcoming clubhouse where missed birdies and eagles can be debated over a favourite tipple, golfers have access to a pro shop, golf carts for hire, and if you've always wanted to approve on that handicap, there's expert tuition from a resident Golf Pro.
